75 Years of Connecting Communities: Reflecting on Our Legacy and Looking Ahead

This year marks an extraordinary milestone for Acrow – 75 years since our founding in New Jersey, USA, in 1951. While the world around us has transformed in countless ways, what has remained constant is our purpose: connecting people through high-quality, sustainable bridge infrastructure that creates lasting impact for generations to come.

Over these decades, we have grown into a truly global organization, delivering tens of thousands of bridge crossings in more than 150 countries across seven continents. Each project represents more than steel and engineering – it represents restored access, renewed opportunity, and stronger communities.

From the very beginning, our work has been shaped by some of the most demanding environments imaginable. Our long-standing partnerships with organizations such as NATO, the U.S. military, and the Australian Defence Force have continually pushed us to innovate and engineer solutions that are not only robust, but adaptable. These experiences have strengthened our technical capabilities and shaped a unique ability to mobilize quickly, deploy efficiently, and deliver with precision – anywhere in the world.

That capability becomes especially critical in times of crisis. Around the world, Acrow bridges have played a vital role in emergency response and recovery – helping communities rebuild after natural disasters and unforeseen events. From restoring vital connections after the eruption of Mount St. Helens, to reconnecting a severely damaged section of Interstate 10 after Hurricane Katrina, our focus has always been clear: restore access quickly and safely so communities can reconnect, regain mobility, and move forward. That same commitment has guided our response to monsoon damage in Pakistan, earthquakes in Chile, Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, flooding and landslides in British Columbia and northern Italy, and in meeting the urgent infrastructure needs of communities in Ukraine.

Acrow has also been called upon in moments of profound human significance. In the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, the Ground Zero Ramp stood as a lasting symbol of our role in both recovery and remembrance. It reminds us that infrastructure is never just functional – it carries meaning, responsibility, and human significance.

At the same time, our legacy is not only built in response – it is built to endure. Our permanent bridge solutions, designed to last a century or more, reflect a long-standing commitment to quality, innovation, and forward thinking. Built with high-strength steel, advanced galvanizing, and pre-engineered modular versatility, these structures do more than meet today’s demands; they represent the lasting legacy of connectivity Acrow strives to deliver for generations to come.

Innovation remains at the core of our progress. From early lift bridge projects such as the Quincy-Weymouth bridge over the Fore River in Massachusetts, to advanced movable structures like the bascule bridge delivered in 2025 at Glen Island Park in Westchester County, New York, we continue to expand the boundaries of what modular steel bridging can achieve.

Today, our solutions are playing a leading role in the modernization of aging infrastructure. Our detour bridging solutions allow critical projects to move forward safely and efficiently while minimizing disruption, keeping communities connected, economies moving, and projects on track. With decades of experience designing and supplying detour bridges for projects ranging from rural crossings to tight urban construction zones, Acrow technology continues to provide a practical, scalable response to the increasingly complex challenge of restoring aging infrastructure. In addition to improving safety by separating traffic from active work zones, our solutions are actively helping to accelerate schedules and reduce the significant costs associated with delays on projects all over the world.

Beyond engineering, we remain deeply committed to supporting long-term economic growth. Through our transformative Bridge Development Programs, we continue to work alongside governments and partners to deliver large-scale infrastructure solutions while facilitating financing and transferring skills that create lasting local impact. Legacy projects in Ghana, Cameroon, and Zambia demonstrate how infrastructure investment can become a catalyst for meaningful economic opportunity and stronger local supply chains, and our latest project in Angola, supplying 186 Acrow bridges, reaffirms our commitment to delivering reliable, sustainable infrastructure solutions that improve connectivity, strengthen transportation networks, and contribute to economic opportunity.

At the heart of all of this are our people. The strength of Acrow lies in the passion, expertise, and integrity of our global team and in the shared mission and values that define us to leave a lasting legacy of connectivity which will positively impact lives.

As we celebrate this important milestone, we remain equally focused on the future. The global demand for resilient, reliable infrastructure continues to grow, and the expectations placed on it will continue to rise. The opportunity to make a meaningful difference, at scale, has never been greater – and Acrow is uniquely positioned to meet that need.

Our mission remains unchanged: to serve communities with infrastructure solutions they can depend on, delivered with the highest standards of quality, safety, and care. But how we deliver on that mission is evolving – shaped by innovation, informed by experience, and driven by a broader vision of what infrastructure can achieve.

Seventy-five years ago, we set out to connect communities. Today, we are building on that legacy of partnership with purpose – expanding our capabilities, broadening our impact, and helping shape the future of infrastructure.

The bridges we have built define our history. The bridges we will build will define what comes next. Seventy-five years in, I am confident that our best work still lies ahead.
