Acrow’s Permanent Steel Bridge Keeps Ontario Bridge Replacement on Budget

French Line River Bridge in Ontario, Canada

Rapid installation of modular structure avoids lengthy traffic disruption

The steel truss French Line Bridge over the Clyde River in Lanark Highlands had come to the end of its 70 year life. A concrete bridge was initially designed for the replacement, but the contractors’ bids came in over budget. Acrow offered an 90 foot (27.43m) two-lane bridge with a width of 24 feet (7.35m), a steel deck overlaid with asphalt, and a PL-2 rated guide rail system. This option saved the township approximately $1 million.

By purchasing Acrow’s modular steel bridge over a traditional concrete structure the contractor was able to build and install the replacement within a much shorter time frame. As the detour around the site was approximately 22 miles (35 km), a quick installation was of significant value and eliminated the need for a temporary bridge.

Acrow’s modular bridges are long-term, cost-effective alternatives to other bridge types. Proof of their strength and performance can be seen in numerous installations still in use dating back 40 years and more.

Acrow bridges are built with only high-quality, high-strength steel from ISO-certified mills and can be designed for a service life of 100 years, while hot-dip galvanizing makes them virtually maintenance-free.  With additional options such as asphalt deck surfaces, fully rated guide rail systems, cambering, and drainage systems, Acrow’s bridges are structurally equivalent to other bridge types yet offer significant cost savings and dramatically reduced installation times.
